John Lloyd earned his accounting degree at State Technical Institute in Memphis and worked in various positions in sales and administration at different companies.
Since 2009, he has been working under the leadership of Len Finch, appraiser, AAA AM who apprenticed under Mrs. Sally McAdoo. Mr. Lloyd writes personal property appraisals and operates an estate sales company. His accounting skills have proven to be very useful in the estate sale business in the areas of inventory control, and accountability for merchandise.
John is an accredited member of the International Society of Appraisers (ISA), and his appraisals are compliant with the USPAP standards. (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisers Practice). Being a member of ISA requires one to take educational courses to make you the best appraiser available.
He completed his accreditation course “A Guide to Appraising Fine Art” which takes about 12 months to complete. This course gives some history of Western, European, American, and post-WWI art. Not only does it cover paintings, but also covers prints on paper, sculptures, photography, frames, and conservation.
He enjoys appraising fine art, American and Continental Furniture, Ceramics, Brilliant period American cut glass, and Sterling silver.
He also has had the pleasure of some overseas travels to Europe, the Philippines, and Thailand. Recently in Europe, he toured the Rijks Museum, the Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam, and Peter Paul Reuben’s home and school museum in Antwerp, Belgium. In Gent, Belgium he visited St. Bavo’s Cathedral where he studied one of the earliest oil paintings “the Altarpiece” painted in 1432 by brothers Jan and Herbert van Eyck, and in Brugge, Belgium he visited the Has Memling Museum was the inventor of oil paintings.
In the US, he has visited several museums in Washington D.C. including the National Art Gallery. In October 2018, he attended the National Appraisers Conference in New York, NY for Professional Personal Property Appraisers with the Appraisers Association of America.
